Tape Studies

Formed by friends in the rainy Orlando summer of 2018, Tape Studies uses the familiar language of post-rock to discover new shapes in the unexpressed. Atmosphere and rhythm set the stage for the melodic presence of cello and piano, creating a haunting mixture of timbres and musical transformations. What began as unadulterated exploration became an ambitious path to follow, the culmination of which is found in their debut 2020 album Kept Underneath. Forgoing the starlit peaks of their predecessors in favor of the somber sounds of the underground, Kept Underneath is a journey into a place that resists categorization. Recorded over six days in Gainesville, Florida's Pulp Studios, mixed by Ryan Haft in Miami, and mastered by Alan Douches of West West Side Music, Kept Underneath is the instrumental trio's first major statement as a band.
